Control of Codling Moth 011Walnuts with a Granulosis Virus P. V. Vail
نویسندگان
چکیده
Field tests were conducted in 1983 at Hanford, CA, to further investigate the use of the codling moth granulosis virus (GV) as a control agent. Timing of application and number of applications were investigated. Sprays were commenced at 0.1 and 10% predicted hatch for the GV as well as Zolone. In the small plots, first brood damage was assessed by counting the number of fallen codling moth infested nuts per tree. The small plots indicated that the GV could provide control statistically equal to Zolone when applied at predicted 10% egg hatch followed by another application 7 days later.

CONTROL OF CODLING MOTH ON WALNUTS WITH A GRANULOSIS VIRUS ABSTRACT P. V. Vail
A granulosis virus was tested as a potential control agent for codling moth larvae on walnuts. The virus was produced and supplied by Sandoz, Inc. as our experimental insecticide. This virus is of considerable interest because it has little or no effect on beneficial parasites and predators and, therefore, probably would not disturb the control of the walnut aphid by the parasite Trioxys palladus.
متن کاملComparative activity of baculoviruses against the codling moth Cydia pomonella and three other tortricid pests of tree fruit.
The granulovirus of Cydia pomonella (L.) (CpGV) offers potential for selective control of codling moth. Two major limitations of CpGV are its narrow host range and lack of persistence in the orchard agroecosystem. The nucleopolyhedroviruses of the alfalfa looper Autographa californica (Speyer) (AcMNPV) and those of the celery looper Anagrapha falcifera (Kirby) (AfMNPV) have broad host ranges. C...
متن کاملSummary of Research Conducted to Develop a Quarantine Treatment for the Codling Moth in Walnuts for Export to Japan
In 1980-1983 small-scale tests were conducted and background information was obtalned to determine the feasibility of developing a quarantine treatment with methyl bromide (MB) for the codling moth (Cydia pomonella La) infesting in-shall walnuts. Some of the studies conducted at this time included basic dose mortality responses of diapausing and nondiapausing larvae, residue determinations and ...
متن کاملIntegration of nonchemical treatments for control of postharvest pyralid moths (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in almonds and raisins.
We propose a treatment strategy combining an initial disinfestation treatment with one of three protective treatments as an alternative for chemical fumigation of almonds and raisins for control of postharvest insect populations. Initial disinfestation treatments using low oxygen controlled atmosphere (0.4% O2) were designed to disinfest product of field populations of pyralid moths; navel oran...
متن کاملNonchemical Postharvest Treatments/techniques for Codling Mothon Inshell Walnuts: Disruption of Mating and Monitoring of Activity Using Sex Pheromone
Mating disruption of a field pest (codling moth) is being tested in a stored-product situation by placing pheromone dispensers in bagged walnuts in storage at 77°F. Three series of tests have resulted in 39-100% control when a single pair of moths was present in each test bag and in 42-87% control when four pairs of moths were present in each test bag. Future tests will include field collected ...
